Jerusalem as a symbol represents the Jewish people who began to return to their homeland in 1878. In 1878, the Berlin Congress of Nations put the Ottoman Empire under the protection of England which allowed Jews access to purchase land in Israel. Petah Tikvah, the first Jewish colony, was established in 1878. It is now a suburb east of Tel Aviv. At the hub of the city is a monument to Lord Rothschild, who financed the colony, dated 1878! Jerusalem as a literal city was under the yoke of Gentile nations for over 2,520 years. Miraculously the holy city was returned to the nation of Israel on June 7, 1967 in fulfillment of scriptural prophecies.
The nations of the world condemn Israel for building, urban development and archaeological work in their capital city. God warns that those who would divide or take Jerusalem from Israel will themselves be injured. God has not given Jerusalem to any other nation or religion. The nations that partition the land of Israel, God’s land, will be judged and punished for their sins against Israel.
