Lightning is a mistranslation of "astrape," for lightning flashes do not come out of the east and shine unto the west. The translators, thinking that the Lord would be revealed suddenly, like a flash of lightning, mistranslated "astrape." But how beautiful is the figure of the sunrise, illustrating the gradual dawning of sunlight as the gradual dawning of truth and blessing in the day of his presence.
